Evaluate audience pain, purchase intent, offer depth, content breadth and competition before choosing a niche. The goal is not to collect tactics; it is to make a small number of decisions that fit together.

Start with the business model, not the tactic

Affiliate marketing is performance-based promotion. You publish or distribute useful information, refer a visitor to a merchant through a tracked link, and may earn a commission if the visitor completes a qualifying action. You normally do not own fulfillment, pricing or customer service, which lowers operational burden but also reduces control.

Choose one audience and one problem

Beginners often stall because they start with a platform or a tool. A cleaner sequence is audience, recurring problem, credible solution category, specific offer and then a traffic source. That sequence makes content ideas, calls to action and measurement easier to reason about.

Validate the offer before promoting it

Check who the product is for, what the merchant actually promises, how the sales process works, whether refund and support terms are clear, and whether the economics are sensible for your traffic source. High commission percentages do not rescue poor audience fit.

Build a simple acquisition loop

Pick one dependable discovery channel first. Search content, long-form video, short-form video, partnerships and paid media can all work, but each requires different skills. A narrow system you can measure is usually more useful than five half-built channels.

Protect trust

Use clear affiliate disclosures, avoid guaranteed-income language, distinguish merchant claims from your own analysis, and recommend alternatives when they genuinely fit better. Trust compounds; exaggerated claims usually do the opposite.
